What a Phone Chat Line Greeting Is

A greeting message is a voice message recorded by the owner of a chat line account that will be displayed to other active users when the user goes online on the phone line. A greeting message states a user’s intentions and interests and is shared with the public group of active callers on the phone chat line.

How Long a Greeting Message Should Be.

An ideal greeting message ranges between 35 and 50 seconds. The minimum length of a greeting message is twenty seconds, and the maximum length is one minute. That’s the standard length for greeting messages on phone chat line platforms. Some companies might allow users to record a shorter or longer greeting message, but typically, they follow the standard.

What to Include in a Greeting Message.

In a greeting message, you can record anything you’d like, but we suggest users include at least two out of the three things detailed below.

  1. Topics you’d like to share. You’re on a phone chat line to have fun. Include your desired topics in your greeting message, so callers know how to start or continue a conversation.
  2. Things you’d like to avoid talking about. Let users know your boundaries and make them aware of which topics you’d prefer not to discuss on a phone chat line.
  3. A fictitious name and description of yourself. On average, at least 280 callers will hear a person’s greeting message when connecting to the phone line. Make sure you don’t record your real name, location, or a real description of yourself that could help others locate you. Only share information with callers you trust and know you won’t have problems with.

What Not to Mention in a Greeting Message.

As mentioned earlier, a greeting message is typically heard by at least 280 callers every time a user goes online on the phone chat line. Make sure not to include the following in your greeting message:

  1. Real Name. Don’t mention your real name in your recording; take advantage of the full privacy feature of the chat line systems.
  2. Real Address. Needless to say, you shouldn’t share your exact location at any point in a public greeting message. Only share information with those who you trust.
  3. Other social media information. It’s easy for tech-savvy individuals to locate your real name and address if they get your other social media account information.

You want to impress with your recording and attract as much attention as possible to join a private phone chat with other callers on the line. Here are some tips for recording a great greeting message.

Write down your greeting message.

Start by writing down ideas of everything you’d like to include in your greeting message. After collecting enough ideas, do a test using your cell phone’s recording app to see how long it takes you to record your greeting message. If your recording is between 35 and 50 seconds long, you’ve got a great greeting message.

Record your greeting message in an empty room.

Getting a clear recording of your voice in your greeting message is important. Chat line users appreciate listening to clean recordings. Try to find a place where you can freely record without distractions and background noises.

Change your greeting message periodically.

Changing your greeting message every other week is good practice. Eventually, you’ll record a greeting message that outperforms your previous ones. By the number of chat requests you receive, you’ll notice whether a greeting message works best or not.
