Hawaii's TODD SHIMODA will read and discuss his newest novel, OH! A MYSTERY OF MON NO AWARE at Inkwood Books on Wednesday, June 10, at 6 p.m. Oh! is a compelling and fast-paced story of a young Japanese-American's self-discovery through Japanese suicide clubs, underground poetry, and the aesthetic of mono no aware (the sadness in beauty). The hybrid novel includes nonfiction passages and original artwork by Shimoda's wife, Linda, amplifying the mood and providing a visual metaphor for the protagonist's emotional growth. Shimoda is author of The Fourth Treasure (Kiriyama Prize notable book for 2002) and 365 Views of Mt. Fuji, which were translated into six languages and sold over 100,000 copies.
